1909-1911 T206 White Border SGC-Graded Hall of Fame Collection (28)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $7,703

Stunning collection of twenty-eight different Hall of Famers from the iconic T206 White Border set. This grouping represents just over one-third of all the Hall of Famers in the complete set (seventy-six Hall of Famers in total). Each card is graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Our consignor purchased these cards in the 1980s and 1990s, before the rise in popularity of professional grading, with an eye for condition and visual appeal. At the time all were described as Near Mint or better and he kept them as part of his advanced prewar-card collection all these years until consigning to this auction. Grading standards were a little different in those early days but, as can easily be seen, all are beautiful cards. All cards have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal advertisements on reverse unless otherwise noted. SGC Grading Composite: EX+ 70 (4 cards): Bender/no trees, Davis, McGinnity, and Willis/throwing (Tolstoi). EX 60 (10 cards): Brown/portrait, Chesbro, Evers/with bat Chicago, Huggins/hands at mouth, Marquard/portrait, Marquard/follow-through, McGraw/finger in air, Wallace, Wheat, and Willis/portrait. VG/EX+ 55 (12 cards): Beckley, Clarke/portrait, Clarke/holding bat, Chance/yellow, Crawford/throwing (Sovereign 350), Griffith/portrait, Keeler/with bat, Lajoie/portrait, McGraw/with cap, McGraw/no cap, Tinker/bat off, and Waddell/throwing. VG/EX 50 (2 cards): E. Collins and Waddell/portrait. This is an extraordinarily attractive collection of cards, truly a collection unto itself, comprised exclusively of Hall of Famers and representing a tremendous opportunity to acquire particularly exceptional examples of these classic cards at a fraction of the cost of higher-graded examples, which could easily cost tens of thousands of dollars. This collection could make a significant contributions to any T206, prewar-card, or Hall of Fame collection. It also naturally has a significant break value. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grades (factoring in the sixteen half grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $8,780. Total: 28 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++. SOLD FOR $7,703
