1909-1911 T206 Ty Cobb Green Background PSA NM 7

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $26,663

Graded NM 7 by PSA. Extremely highly graded example of Ty Cobb from the prized T206 White Borders series that features a classic portrait image set against a brilliant green background. The Green Background pose has long been considered the rarest, and by far the most desirable, of the four poses of Cobb in the T206 set. It is also the hardest of the four to find in high grade with only eight cards evaluated by PSA (each graded NM-MT 8) exceeding this NM 7. This is an outstanding example, crisp and clean all around. The corners are sharp with just slight hints of wear. The reverse features a boldly printed Piedmont 350 advertisement. The centering is virtually perfect on both front and back. The image of Cobb is crisp and just slightly out of register, common to this card and only noticeable along the bright white borders on the left and bottom sides. This card originally appeared as Lot #239 in REA's Spring 2013 auction (realizing $32,857.50) and has been consigned to this auction directly from the buyer at that sale. This is an extremely attractive ultra high-grade example of one of the key cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000++. SOLD FOR $26,663
