1911 T205 Gold Border Eddie Collins Mouth Closed - Extreme Printing Anomaly!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $948

Fascinating and unusual printing anomaly of Hall of Famer Eddie Collins (mouth closed variation) from the T205 Gold Borders series. The offered card has a complete wet-sheet transfer of the reverse text overlaid on the card front. This is the most extreme wet-sheet transfer we have ever seen. Oftentimes, portions of text or the image are visible, but this is the first one that we can ever recall seeing with a complete, bold, and legible wet-sheet transfer. The transfer creates a somewhat dizzying effect, and it is an incredible oddity from this iconic set. Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, the card is bright and clean with excellent centering (slightly to the bottom), flawless gold borders, and four strong corners showing only light hints of wear. The Piedmont reverse is entirely clean. The card would likely grade EX+ in not for the wet-sheet transfer. Originating from an old-time collection, this card has only recently surfaced in the modern collecting world and we believe it will be very much appreciated by collectors of unique and unusual cards from classic prewar sets, such as T205 and T206. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $948
