1911 T205 Gold Border SGC-Graded Complete Set (208 Plus 1 Variation)

Starting Bid - $10,000, Sold For - $29,625

Presented is an exceptionally attractive complete set of 208 cards (plus one variation - Dougherty/white sock - for a total of 209 cards), all graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). The T205 Gold Borders set is universally recognized as one of the most classic of all tobacco-card issues and includes all the great stars of the era and many rarities that make this set one of the most challenging and difficult-to-complete of all tobacco-card sets. This is a gorgeous set, rarely offered in complete-set form in such high grade. As anyone who has seen graded T205s can verify, T205s tend to be graded very harshly, and almost all of these cards have an appearance far superior to their assigned grades. This complete set has been very carefully assembled by an extremely dedicated collector over a period of many years, and represents a tremendous collecting achievement.

In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. SGC Grading Composite: Two EX/NM+ 82: # 43 Dahlen and 120. The extraordinary across-the-board quality of this set is not an accident. Our consignor invested literally years in assembling this set in the days prior to the rise in popularity of professional grading (in the 1980s and 1990s) but was extremely diligent about condition, had the luxury of seeing thousands of cards, and had a keen focus on overall eye-appeal. This is a tremendous high-grade T205 set, far nicer than usually seen, with numerous high-grade highlights among Hall of Famers and rarities. The equivalent SMR value for the individual cards (factoring in the eighty half grades at the lower whole-grade level and excluding the eighteen cards graded "Authentic") is $32,295. Total: 209 cards. Reserve $10,000. Estimate $20,000+. SOLD FOR $29,625
