1911 T205 Gold Border Irvin Wilhelm "Suffered" Variation

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963

Graded VG/EX+ 55 by SGC. Wilhelm is one of the particularly rare cards in the T205 Gold Border set. Few realize that there are actually two variations to this card, relating to the text on the reverse (the variations are checklisted in The Standard Catalog as 202a and 202b). Presented here is the rarer of the two, known as the "Suffered" variation, which is one of the most difficult to find of all T205 Gold Borders. This variation has the full word “Suffered” in the 18th line of the biography (the other variation is missing the letter "r" in the word "Suffered"). The card is well centered (slightly to the bottom left) with bold color and a strong image. The delicate gold borders are free of almost any chipping with only hints of white at the corners and in a tiny area on the bottom border. The corners show light even wear with small, almost imperceptible bend at the tip of the lower left corner. Free of any major creases or wrinkles. Hassan advertising reverse. This is an extremely strong example of this rarity and a worthy addition to any T205 Gold Border master set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,963
