1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders Complete Set (50): #5 PSA Registry! (5.38 GPA)

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $8,295

Extraordinary high-grade complete set of 1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders (50 cards), all graded and encapsulated by PSA (all submitted by REA). This is an extremely attractive complete set of this classic tobacco issue! Listed on the PSA Set Registry with an overall GPA of 5.38, this set currently ranks as the fifth finest with an incredible forty cards ranging in grade from Ex to Nr/Mt. T201s are so difficult to find in high grade as they are often downgraded due to to minor condition flaws. The thin stock on which T201s are printed makes them especially susceptible to very light corner rounding and surface wrinkles. In the following condition composite, identifying card numbers are those provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. The PSA grades are as follows: NM 7 (2 cards): #15 Cicotte/Thoney ("Black Sox") and 22. EX-MT+ 6.5 (2 cards): #21 and 44. EX-MT 6 (18 cards): #3, 4, 6 Bender/Oldring (HOF), 7 Bergen/Wheat (HOF), 9 Bresnahan/Huggins (HOF), 10 Bridwell/Matthewson (HOF), 12 Byrne/Clarke (HOF), 14 Chase/Sweeney, 17 Cobb/Crawford (HOF), 19, 24, 27, 30, 33, 35, 40 Johnson/Street (HOF), 41, and 48 Payne/Walsh (HOF). EX 5 (18 cards): #5, 11 Brown/Hoffman (HOF), 13 Chance/Evers (HOF), 16, 18, 20, 25, 26, 28 Falkenberg/Lajoie (HOF), 29, 31, 34, 36, 38, 39 Jennings/Summers (HOF), 45, 49, and 50. VG-EX+ 4.5 (1 card): #23. VG-EX 4 (9 cards): #1, 2 Baker/Collins (HOF), 8, 32 Gardner/Speaker (HOF), 37, 42 Lake/Wallace (HOF), 43, 46 McCarty/McGinnity (HOF), and 47. As suggested by the grades above, this is an exceptionally crisp, clean, and attractive complete set of Mecca Double Folders. This set actually has an appearance that is superior to even the already impressive assigned grades and was purchased by our consignor more than twenty years ago described as Nr/Mt-Mt. We can certainly see why they were graded Nr/Mt-Mt in the early years of the hobby, and while grading standards have changed a little over the decades, upon seeing this set (which has not seen the light of day since originally purchased), we immediately knew this was a set in which every card was worth grading. The T201 Mecca Double Folders set includes twenty Hall of Famers and is arguably one of the best values of all 1910 tobacco-card issues. This is an incredible opportunity to acquire an outstanding complete set of this classic tobacco-card issue with many exceptional highlights. The total SMR value for the assigned grades is $9,390. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,295
