1913 T200 Fatima Team-Card Collection SGC-Graded Set (9/16)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,036

Fatima Cigarettes is responsible for one of the most unusual and distinctive of all tobacco-card issues: the T200 Fatima team-card set. Presented is an attractive partial set of nine cards (of sixteen in the complete set), all graded and encapsulated by SGC (all but one submitted by REA). Complete sets of T200 Fatima team cards are very difficult to assemble, in part because several teams are rare. The offered cards are extremely strong throughout and, for T200 Fatima Team cards, one of the most condition-sensitive sets ever issued, most of these cards are in extremely high grade. The thin stock and fragile real-photo surface of T200 Fatimas makes them very susceptible to light creasing. Many collectors consider T200, and the similarly designed T222 individual-player cards, the single most condition-sensitive sets in all of vintage-card collecting. As is often the case with T200 Fatimas, these cards look far better than their assigned grades. SGC Condition Report: One NM 84: Boston Americans. Two EX 60: Chicago Americans and New York Nationals (with Christy Mathewson). Three VG+ 45: Cleveland Americans (with Joe Jackson), Washington Americans (with Walter Johnson), and St. Louis Nationals. One VG 40: St. Louis Americans. Two Authentic: Brooklyn Nationals and Philadelphia Americans. T200 Fatimas is a set which is not practical to collect in Mint condition, and even cards graded higher than Ex are tough to come by due to their fragile nature. This set is also just beginning to be appreciated for its combination of rarity, unusual design, photographic quality, and the exceptional value it represents compared to other far more common tobacco-card issues of the era. SMR values appear very reasonable compared to actual selling prices. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grades (not including the two cards graded "Authentic" and factoring the three half-graded cards in at the lower whole-grade value) is $5,695. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $5,036
