1911 D304 Brunners Bread M. Kelly PSA EX 5 and Advertising Ink Blotter

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948

Presented is a sample card from the 25-card Brunners Butter Krust brand bread (General Baking Co.) series, accompanied by an extremely rare Brunners Bread advertising blotter. Issued by a bakery in the Buffalo, New York, area, D304s are known with five different back styles (Brunners, Butter Krust, General Baking Co., Weber Bakery, and Martens Bakery). Similar in design to tobacco and candy cards of the era, Brunners measure slightly larger than T206s, at 1.75 x 2.5 inches, and are actually considerably rarer than most 1910-era “E” and “T” card issues. The fronts feature very attractive full-color illustrations, each of which is unique to this issue. PSA graded the offered example of Kelly EX 5, and it is one of only three graded at this level with one higher. Bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back, with bold colors, strong corners (a little more wear in the lower right), and near-perfect centering. Also included with the card is an ink blotter related to the set, which advertises "A Photo of Your Favorite Ball Player With Each Wrapped Loaf of Fleichmann, General and Butter-Krust Breads. Start Your Collection Now!" Two generic ballplayers are pictured on either side of the text. The blotter measures 6 by 3.75 inches and is in overall VG-EX condition with light discoloration and a tiny wrinkle along the top border. The advertising blotter is especially rare, interesting, and unusual. This is an outstanding pair of bakery-issued items. Total 2 items. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $948
