1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Complete Set (40)

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,518

Exceptionally attractive and very rarely seen complete forty-card set of E92 Dockman & Sons caramel cards. This is only the second complete set of E92s that we can recall ever offering. E92 Dockman & Sons is a very scarce caramel issue from 1909 that shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. We have selected the eleven Hall of Famers to be graded by SGC. SGC Grading Composite: One EX 60: Young. Two VG 40: Bender and McGraw. One GOOD 30: Lajoie. Five FAIR 20: Chance, Crawford, Mathewson, Tinker, and Wagner/batting. Two POOR 10: Jennings and Wagner/throwing. Of the remaining cards, ten grade Vg-Ex, five Vg, and fourteen lesser (including Chase and a few trimmed). The lesser-graded examples are almost all downgraded due to issues on the reverse. With few exceptions, this set is overall in exceptionally fine condition. Caramel cards, because they were issued with candy, one card per package, did not easily escape damage or hold up well to wear over the years. This is a tremendous and very rarely offered complete set of E92 Dockmans, one of the most popular, elusive, and colorful of all ā€œEā€ card issues. The equivalent SMR value for just the eleven graded Hall of Famers (factoring in the five half-grades at the lower whole-grade level and not including the additional twenty-nine cards!) is $6,100. This set has been consigned directly from the family of legendary pioneer collector Paul Pollard. Total: 40 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000++. SOLD FOR $6,518
