1911 M116 Sporting Life SGC-Graded Hall of Fame Collection (9)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,666

Extremely attractive collection of nine Hall of Famers from the M116 Sporting Life set, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Sporting Life was a major competitor of The Sporting News in the early part of the twentieth century. The Sporting Life set was issued in 24 series of 12 cards each, sold by mail for four cents per series. M116s are one of the most significant and substantial issues of the era, and are considerably scarcer than their tobacco-card counterparts. This collection consists of the following: Baker (black back, EX 60), Clarke (black back, VG+ 45), Crawford (pastel, EX+ 70), Duffy (EX 60), Evers (black back, VG/EX 50), Griffith (EX 60), Joss (EX+ 70), McGraw (VG/EX 50), and Wallace (EX/NM 80). Each card is bright and crisp with the lesser-graded examples (downgraded due to light wrinkles visible only under close inspection) each presenting at a level far superior to its assigned grade. This collection represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire nine magnificent M116 Hall of Famers with tremendous visual appeal. We can't help but note that the guide values seem very reasonable (in our opinion an outstanding collecting value) for this issue in general and these cards in particular. The equivalent SMR value for the nine cards in the assigned grades (factoring in the three half grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $2,205. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,666
