1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Frederick Mitchell SGC EX/NM+ 82

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,422

Graded EX/NM+ 82 by SGC (submitted by REA). This card is the only example of Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Frederick Mitchell from the W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set graded at any level by SGC. Only seven examples (of any subject) have graded higher than EX/NM+ 82 out of 218 cards evaluated by SGC to date. W600s are one of the rarest sets from the early part of the century, and are one of the most substantial and well-made card sets ever produced. With good reason, they have always been highly prized by serious collectors. Bright, crisp, and clean, with strong corners (wear most noticeable in the bottom right), flawless surface, and bold image. The blank reverse is perfectly clean with only a few unobtrusive age spots present near the bottom edge. This is a very striking ultra high-grade example from one of the most important of all twentieth-century sets, which would be a significant addition to any W600 or prewar-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,422
