1964 Topps "The Beatles" Cards Advertising Sheet
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $2,133
Fascinating and extremely rare relic relating to the very popular "The Beatles" series produced by Topps in 1964. Presented is an original Topps advertising sheet sent to stores to announce and promote the upcoming release of "The Beatles Bubble Gum Picture Cards." We have never seen another example of this rarity. When the Beatles stormed the shores of America, an uncontrollable appetite for Beatles-related products resulted, and Topps could barely keep up with the demand for new, exciting, and now classic Beatles trading cards. This advertising sheet, which measures 8.5 x 11 inches and was obviously distributed only one per store chosen to receive the communication, is printed on Topps company stationery, and features portraits of the four band members at top. The letter announces that the new cards will be shipped to stores at the end of February. Demand is so great in test stores, according to the sheet, that Topps will be sending all participating stores a "modest" allotment to start. The closing line gives retailers the option to decline "The Beatles" product line, but given the immense popularity enjoyed by the group at the time, it is hard to imagine that any store would intentionally decide to not carry the product. Three punch holes appear along the left side (related to binder storage) and a red-pencil "A" is written and circled at the bottom of the sheet; the sheet otherwise presents in beautiful Near Mint condition. Originating directly from Topps, the piece is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from The Topps Vault and has been framed and matted to total dimensions of 12.5 x 15 inches. This is a tremendous display piece relating to "The Beatles" cards issued by Topps, and would make an outstanding addition to any Beatles, Topps advertising, or nonsport-card collection. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $2,133
