1889 N8 Allen & Ginter "Fish from American Waters" SGC-Graded Complete Set (50): #1 SGC Registry!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963

Complete set of fifty 1889 Allen & Ginter "Fish from American Waters" cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC. Extremely attractive ultra high-grade complete set of these colorful tobacco cards. This set ranks #1 on the SGC Set Registry with an impressive overall GPA of 83.96 (averaging almost NM across the board). This set is remarkably strong, with forty-seven of the fifty cards ranking as the highest-graded examples on record, many with no other examples even graded at the same level. All the cards are bright and crisp and have managed to avoid common flaws that tend to plague nineteenth-century cards and often cause them to grade very modestly, including paper loss, glue residue, and writing on the reverse. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the American Tobacco Cards Price Guide checklist. The SGC grades are as follows: One NM/MT+ 92: #14. Eight NM/MT 88: #7, 12, 16, 18, 24, 30, 35, and 43. Twelve NM+ 86: #2, 4, 9, 11, 20, 22, 23, 28, 32, 40, 42, and 48. Twenty NM 84: #1, 5, 10, 15, 17, 19, 21, 25, 26, 29, 33, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, 44, 45, 47, and 49. Seven EX/NM 80: #3, 6, 8, 27, 34, 46, and 50. One EX+ 70: #31. One EX 60: #13. This is a rarely offered and exceptionally attractive nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card set in unparalleled ultra high grade, which would be a worthy addition to any nonsport-card collection. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,963
