Circa 1910 T218 Champions Near-Complete Set (151/153) and T220 Champions Complete Set (50)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067

Collection of 201 cards representing one complete and one near-complete set of two different classic 1910-era tobacco issues featuring boxers and other athletes. 1) T218 Champion Athletes and Prize Fighters (151/153): Near-complete set consisting of 151 different cards (out of 153 cards in the set). Missing only Daly and Hoppe/in action for completion. The T218s feature boxers and various champion athletes of the era, including bowlers, billiards champions, and track-and-field stars. 80% grade Vg to Vg-Ex (including some Ex) and 20% grade lesser (several of which are downgraded solely for flaws on the reverse despite a Vg or better appearance). Keys: Attell (Vg+), Gans (Vg), Jeffries/arms crossed (Gd+), Jeffries/side (Vg+), Johnson/front (Vg), Johnson/side (SGC FAIR 20), Ketchell (Vg), and Langford (Vg). 2) T220 Champion Athlete and Prize Fighter Series: Complete set of 50 cards. The T220 series features exclusively boxers and champion prize fighters of the era. 66% grade Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few Ex and five cards which measure slightly small) and 34% grade lesser (all but five of which are due to small pencil marks or paper loss on the reverse). Keys: Corbett (Vg+), Dempsey (Vg-Ex), Dixon (measures small, otherwise Vg), Fitzsimmons (Gd), Gans (Vg+), Jackson (Vg+), Jeffries/Sharkey (Ex), Sullivan (Vg-Ex front, with small chips of paper loss and a stain on the reverse), and Sullivan/Kilrain (measures small, otherwise Vg+). This is a very crisp, clean, and attractive collection of 201 different 1910-era tobacco cards. In the opinion of many collectors, these sets represent an extraordinary collecting value! Total: 201 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,067
