1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life George Carey SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,555

Graded NM 84 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the highest grade ever awarded to a W600 by SGC. (Only seven examples in total of all subjects have ever graded NM 84 with none higher.) Magnificent ultra high-grade example of Washington Senators first baseman George Carey from the W600 Sporting Life cabinet-card set. This is the only example of Carey graded at any level by either SGC or PSA. W600s are one of the rarest sets from the early part of the century, and are one of the most substantial and well-made card sets ever produced. With good reason, they have always been highly prized by serious collectors. Bright, crisp, and perfectly clean, front and back, with square corners, flawless surface, and a bold image. This is a very striking ultra high-grade example from one of the most important of all nineteenth-century sets, which would be a significant addition to any W600 or prewar-card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,555
