1923 New York Yankees (vs. Cleveland) Program - Yankee Stadium Inaugural Season!

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $356

Scarce 1923 New York Yankees program dating from the club's inaugural season playing in Yankee Stadium. The 8-page program is dated on the front, and features the team's home and away schedule on the interior. The preprinted lineups include Babe Ruth, Bob Meusel, Joe Dugan, Wally Pipp, and Everett Scott for New York, and Tris Speaker, Joe Sewell, and Bill Wambsganss for Cleveland. Hoyt and Coveleski are noted as the starting pitchers. Neatly scored in pencil to record an 8-7 Yankees win on June 10th (Ruth went 0-2 and was walked three times). Interestingly, an advertisement for the Osborn Engineering Co., the architectural firm that designed Yankee Stadium, appears on one of the scoring sheets. This program belonged to our consignor's father, who actually attended the game! It was just recently discovered by the family, along with a number of World Series programs and tickets, and, most important, a program and ticket stub from the very first game at Yankee Stadium, on April 18, 1923 (all of the other programs and ticket stubs are offered elsewhere this auction). The program (6.5 x 9.75 inches) remains in Excellent condition overall.
Reserve $100. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $356
