1964 Topps Stand-Ups Near-Complete Set (69/77)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,778

Crisp and clean near-complete set of 1964 Topps Stand-Up cards, consisting of 69 different cards (of 77 in the set), highlighted by several Hall of Famers, stars, and scarce short prints. 84% of the cards range in grade from Ex to Ex-Mt (including some Nr/Mt) and 16% of the cards (all short prints, including Cash and Santo) would technically grade lesser due to vintage tape on the reverse reinforcing the diecut (though from the fronts they present similarly to the rest of the set). These cards have been consigned by the family of an old-time collector, who very likely purchased them in the 1970s from hobby pioneer Bruce Yeko’s Wholesale Card Company. In the 1960s Yeko somehow obtained a significant quantity of 1964 Topps Stand-Ups, probably directly from Topps, and while he did not have complete sets he did have groups of 50+ different cards which he offered for years through his fixed-price catalog in the early days of the hobby. Most of the card-collecting world’s high-grade 1964 Topps Stand-Ups can be traced back to Yeko. Keys: Aaron (Ex), Banks (Ex-Mt), Cepeda (Ex), Clemente (Ex+), Drysdale/SP (Ex-Mt), Kaline (Ex+), Killebrew (Nr/Mt), Koufax (Ex), Mantle (Ex+), and Mays (Ex+). Missing only the following eight scarce short-print cards for completion: Lock, Marichal, Mathews, McCovey, Fr. Robinson, Spahn, Williams, and Yastrzemski. This is an extremely attractive near-complete set of this very interesting, unusual, and scarce 1960s Topps set. Total: 69 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,778
