1910-Era Baseball Team Real-Photo Postcard Collection (3) Including Tigerton Female Team and Integrated Manitowoc Club

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $533

Outstanding collection of three real-photo postcards featuring three different 1910-era baseball teams. 1) 1907 Manitowoc: Graded FAIR 20 by SGC and identified as c.1930s due to the AZO style stamp box printed on the reverse, which features square corners (utilized from 1926-1940) instead of a stamp box with triangles printed in the corners (utilized from 1904-1918). This postcard may have been reprinted at a later time, or a variation to the AZO printing may exist that has not yet been properly documented. SGC has dated this postcard as printed "C. 1930s". This important team postcard depicts George Wilson, a Negro League pitcher who integrated this local team, alongside nine other players, a manager, and a child mascot posed with baseball equipment. The photo quality and contrast on the postcard is outstanding, with a light glue streak and faint pencil on reverse responsible for the modest assigned grade. A few light surface wrinkles are visible on the postcard, which presents as Vg. 2) 1910 Rochester Bronchos of the Eastern League: Graded VG 40 by SGC. Exceptional team-composite postcard featuring nineteen members of the 1910 championship Rochester team as well as the team's President and manager. Each of the twenty-one people featured on the postcard are shown in portrait form inside ovals (rectangles for the manager and President) arranged on front. Several of the team members went on to play in the Major Leagues, including Whitey Alperman, George McConnell, and Hack Simmons. Crisp and clean with tremendous photo clarity, the postcard presents as Excellent but has been downgraded due to a small erased price on the reverse. 3) 1915 Tigerton: Graded VG 40 by SGC. Superb team photo postcard of the Tigerton, Wisconsin female baseball team. Ten ballplayers are pictured with a male manager and a child mascot at center. The two players on the end are holding baseball bats while additional equipment is scattered at the base of the team photo. "Have Not Lost a Game This Season 1915" is printed along the bottom border on front. The postcard displays incredible photo quality and image clarity. Presenting as Excellent, light corner lines (possibly from long ago storage in an album) are responsible for the modest assigned grade. Clean reverse. This is an exceptional collection of three unusual, early real-photo team postcards, each a rarity with its own noteworthy distinction. Total: 3 postcards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
