1909-1911 T206 El Principe De Gales and Old Mill Collection Including Ty Cobb (48)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,036

Presented is a collection of forty-eight different T206 White Border cards, highlighted by eleven Hall of Famers, including Ty Cobb, Addie Joss, and Nap Lajoie. Twenty-nine cards in this collection feature an Old Mill advertisement and nineteen feature an El Principe de Gales reverse. This collection consists of the following: El Principe De Gales (19 cards): Abbaticchio/brown sleeves, Bergen/batting, Bowerman, Camnitz/arms folded, Chesbro (trimmed, otherwise Pr), Gilbert, Herzog/NY, Keeler/portrait (trimmed, otherwise Fr), Kling, Lundgren/KC, Mullin/throwing, Ritchey, Rucker/portrait, A. Shaw, Steinfeldt/portrait, Stovall/portrait, Turner, Weimer, and Wilhelm/hands at chest. Overall Pr to Gd, mostly due to album residue on the reverses. One card presents as Vg but grades lesser, and two are trimmed. Old Mill (29 cards): Ball/Cleveland (name on top), Bridwell/portrait with cap, Burch/fielding, Camnitz/hands above head (name on top and bottom), Cobb/bat off (Fr), Crandall/portrait with cap, Crawford/with bat (Fr), Dougherty/arm in air, Elberfeld/Washington fielding, Gandil (Pr), Jennings/one hand (Pr), Jordan/batting, Joss/hands at chest (Gd), Konetchy/glove near ground, Lajoie/with bat (Pr), Lake/ball in hand, Leach/bending over, McGraw/glove at hip (Pr), Meyers, Mullin/with bat, Needham, Pelty/vertical, Pfeffer, Schlei/batting, Schlei/portrait, Seymour/portrait, J. Sweeney, Tinker/bat on shoulder (Pr, name on top and bottom), and Willetts. Overall condition is modest, ranging from Pr to Gd, mostly due to album residue on the reverses. Four cards present as Vg but grade lesser, and two are trimmed. This lot is ideal for the collector who wants real, original circa 1910 tobacco cards which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. These cards are also ideal for anyone collecting T206 by the backs. This is a small but desirable sampling of cards heralding from an original-owner collection that has remained untouched for the past hundred years and is made even more desirable by the El Principe de Gales and Old Mill advertising reverses, which this collection consists of exclusively. Total: 48 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $5,036
