Super High-Grade 1962 Topps "Civil War News" Complete Set (88)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $948
Exceptionally crisp high-grade complete set of 1962 Topps "Civil War News." Thirty of the eighty-eight cards have been professionally graded by PSA, ranging in grade from NM 7 to MINT 9. "Civil War News" is one of nonsport-card collecting's all-time classic sets. Each card has multicolored artwork of a battle scene or historical event. The text on the reverse is designed in the style of a newspaper. The extraordinary artwork and accurate historical information presented on these cards have always distinguished them as one of Topps' most ambitious projects. The entire set of eighty-eight cards was assembled directly from fresh cello packs by our consignor many years ago! Every card displays bold, vibrant color, bright white borders, and sharp corners. PSA Grading Composite: MINT 9 (2 cards): #40 and 58. NM-MT 8 (5 cards): #16, 22, 47 (MC), 60, and 88 (OC). NM 7 (23 cards): #10, 11, 13 (MC), 15, 19, 28, 38 (MC), 39, 42, 52, 53, 54, 56, 59, 61, 63, 68, 70, 71, 82, 83, 84, and 85. The ungraded balance ranges from Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex-Mt) with centering the only notable flaw, which is extremely common for this issue. Seven cards have miscut backs (in addition to the three with MC qualifiers among the graded cards). This is an outstanding, literally pack-fresh complete set of this very popular nonsport issue. The SMR value for just twenty-six of the graded cards (excluding the four qualified cards and the fifty-eight ungraded cards) is $800. Total: 88 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $948
