1950 Bowman "Wild Man" #43 "Fort William Henry Massacre" - Original Card Artwork

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $4,740

Outstanding original artwork for card #43 "Fort William Henry Massacre" from the 1950 Bowman "Wild Man" set. "Wild Man" is one of the most interesting nonsport issues of the era. The set portrays man's violent past with magnificent color artwork and graphic text. This is first original artwork from this popular set that we have ever offered and in fact is the only one that we can find any record of having ever been offered at public auction. Measuring 5 by 6 inches, the artwork is executed in brilliantly-colored paint on artist's board and remains in overall Near Mint condition. Light traces of production-related glue stains are present on the blank reverse, extremely common among original artworks from this era. This is a tremendous and rarely offered original artwork which will be especially desirable as a companion piece to a complete set or as an addition to any advanced nonsport collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $4,740
