1941 R137 Goudey "Sky Birds" SGC-Graded Complete Set (24)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $533

Extremely crisp and clean complete set of this extraordinarily attractive early 1940s gum-card set issued by Goudey, which features different fighter planes used by countries involved in the war effort. Each card is professionally graded and encapsulated by SGC. The 24-card set is one of the last of all Goudey sets, and one of the most striking, exciting, and colorful bubble-gum card sets of the era. SGC Grading Composite: Two EX/NM 80: #3 and 13. Three EX+ 70: #9, 14, and 22. Six EX 60: #5, 7, 11, 15, 21, and 24. Eight VG/EX 50: #6, 10, 12, 16, 18, 19, 20, and 23. Five VG 40: #1, 2, 4, 8, and 17. This is a magnificent high-grade complete set of this stunning and classic 1940s Goudey issue. For some unexplained reason, these have long been somewhat modest in value (we think there may have been a big find of these many decades ago), but interest is deservedly growing for this set due to its extraordinary merits and the great collecting value it represents. Total: 24 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $533
