1936 R60 Gum, Inc. "G-Men & Heroes of the Law" Original-Owner Collection (380)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $830
Presented is a tremendous collection of 380 cards from the “G-Men & Heroes of the Law” set issued by Gum, Inc., in 1936. This collection consists of ninety-eight different cards, including four rare high numbers (#214, 262, 307, and 411), which represents 58% of a complete 168-card set. The remaining 262 cards are duplicates. Sixteen of the twenty-four copyright variations for cards #1-24 are included (cards #1, 2, 3, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 in this collection are offered with and without copyright). Incredibly, this collection has been consigned to the auction directly by the original owner, who acquired these in the year of issue! This is one of nonsport-card collecting's all-time classic sets, presenting exciting "official stories" about "G-Men and Famous Police Organizations and Heroes of the Law." One thing the 1930s had plenty of was exciting gangster stories. These cards chronicle law-enforcement adventures in an era that glamorized, at times, both the representatives of law enforcement and the criminals as well. In the world of card collecting, "G-Men" (as the set is often referred to) has always been a very special set. In addition to being one of the most interesting and sought-after of all 1930s gum-card issues, this is a set that simply is rarely ever completed, with several rare cards and forty-eight scarce high numbers. Condition: The cards in the offered collection almost all display bold colors but have obviously been handled throughout the years. 39% grade Vg to Vg-Ex and 61% lesser. The majority of the higher-grade cards are from the #1-24 range as that is also where the heaviest duplication exists. Gum, Inc.'s 1930s “G-Men & Heroes of the Law” series is one of the most popular nonsport sets ever issued. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, popular subject matter, and the exciting adventures presented on the backs, all contribute to making this set one of nonsport collecting's all-time classics. This is a very sizable collection, which provides an outstanding foundation for the assembly of a complete set of this very colorful, attractive, and popular 1930s gum issue. Total: 380 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $830
