1934 R24 Goudey "Big Thrill" Booklets Complete Set Minus 2 (22/24)

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $711

Near-complete set of twenty-two (of twenty-four) "Big Thrill" booklets issued by Goudey Gum Co. in 1934. Missing only Buck Jones "Shot From Ambush" and "A Murder Mystery" for completion. This is a very high-grade group for this fragile issue. These booklets range in grade from Vg to Ex with the exception of just three Fr-Gd. This is one of the all-time classic 1930s nonsport sets. In addition, this set naturally has a great crossover appeal to both comic and character collectors. Four different characters (Buck Jones, Buck Rogers, Dick Tracy, and Tailspin Tommy) are featured in six-booklet subsets in this rare 1930s issue. Each eight-page booklet is incredibly fragile and is naturally so susceptible to damage. All the booklets in this collection are bright and crisp, and are downgraded due to minor technical concerns, such as wear to the corners or a very light crease or tiny tear. Several booklets have slight as-issued "diamond cuts." The "Big Thrill" booklets are among the most desirable of all 1930s Goudey issues, and this is an outstanding near-complete set of this rare and condition-sensitive issue. Total: 22 booklets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $711
