1930s R72 Schutter-Johnson "I'm Going To Be" Complete PSA-Graded Set (24)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $415

Complete PSA-graded set of twenty-four cards (missing only the legendary card #4 Strongman rarity, which appears as a separate lot individually in this auction) of R72 Schutter-Johnson "I'm Going To Be" nonsport cards. This set currently ranks second on the PSA Set Registry with a 4.23 GPA. The Schutter-Johnson Candy Corporation issued this set with its products during the 1930s. The colorful cards depict various occupations on front, ranging from traditional (Policeman and Fireman) to far-fetched (Pirate and Gold Miner), along with a description of the job and redemption offer on reverse. A complete set of twenty-five cards could be redeemed for a baseball mitt, wrist watch, or a pair of roller skates, all very expensive prizes for the era (and, no doubt, the reason that the Strongman card was severely short-printed to make prize redemptions virtually impossible). PSA Grading Composite: Four EX 5: #3, 8, 9, and 16. Seven VG-EX+ 4.5: #6, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, and 24. Eleven VG-EX 4: #1, 5, 7, 10, 14, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 25. Two VG 3: #2 and 23. This is an extremely attractive set of this classic nonsport issue, which is all the more noteworthy given that the legendary Strongman rarity is offered in the same auction for the first time ever. Total: 24 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $415
