Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $474
Presented is an extremely desirable and attractive complete set of ten R65 “History of Aviation” premiums issued by Goudey in 1936. At a time when aviation was a popular theme in the overall landscape of America, Goudey honored five famous aviators, including Howard Hughes and Charles Lindbergh, in this colorful set, which depicts each aviator on his own premium as well as five premiums dedicated to accomplishments in aviation. The reverse of each premium has a detailed description of the depiction on front as well as a small advertisement for the Goudey Gum Company and instructions to punch holes in the borders so that the premiums could be easily stored in a binder. All ten premiums in this complete are unpunched. Each premium measures 5.25 by 5.25 inches. Overall condition is Excellent. Each premium displays vibrant colors and crisp images. The fragile thin stock shows light wear at the corners, but all are otherwise virtually flawless and free of any major creases or wrinkles, which are so common to this issue. This is an outstanding and extremely pleasing complete set of this unusual and substantial 1930s nonsport series issued by Goudey Gum. Total: 10 premiums. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $474
