Original one-cent wax wrapper from the A&BC version of the "Mars Attacks" series plus a partial set consisting of thirty cards (of fifty-five). Topps licensed many of its most popular sets for issue in Great Britain under the A&BC Company name. The cards are identical in design, but smaller in dimensions than the standard Topps cards. In many cases, these cards are actually scarcer than their American counterparts. Measuring 4-3/16 x 5-1/2 inches, the A&BC "Mars Attacks" wrapper features a green, red, and yellow design that is different from the American wax wrapper. The wrapper is bright yellow with the set name and price boldly printed in red. "Space Adventure Bubble Gum" is underneath in black, and a green Martian is illustrated alongside with a small spacecraft positioned next to him. The design repeats four times on front, creating an impressive visual. The white side margins list the Bubbles, Inc., company name, the gum ingredients, and the Great Britain licensing information. Normal fold lines are visible, and the wrapper remains in overall Excellent to Near Mint condition. The partial set consists of the following thirty different cards: #1-5, 8, 9, 11-14, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25, 26, 28-31, 33, 38, 39, 41, 44, 46, 50, 53, and 54. All cards would grade rather modestly (none higher than Vg), but maintain bold colors and crisp images. This represents an outstanding foundation for the assembly of a complete set of A&BC cards, which are especially scarce. The great similarity of these A&BC items to their classic American counterparts make them particularly fascinating and worthy additions to any "Mars Attacks," nonsport, or foreign-card collection. Total: one wrapper and thirty cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $948
