Playboy magazine will forever be recognized for its social significance in reflecting as well as contributing to popular American culture. Early issues are especially rare and highly collectible. Presented is the iconic first issue of Playboy (Volume 1; Number 1; December 1953) featuring Marilyn Monroe on the cover; both this issue and Marilyn Monroe are among the most recognizable icons of popular culture and Americana. Both covers are detached, but remain present. A number of pages have detached from the staples, but the magazine is complete as issued. Light water staining affects both covers and nearly all of the interior pages. A number of creases and minor edge tears also affect the covers. Fair condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
