1937 Ryder Cup Program Signed by Hagen, Sarazen, Byron, and Many Others
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $948
Addendum: Please note that the cover to the program we are showing here on our website (which is detached) is the BACK COVER. The front cover is missing.
Program from the 1937 Ryder Cup, signed on the interior (near each respective individual's photo) by all twenty participants, plus Walter Hagen (non-playing captain of the U.S. team). Unless otherwise noted, all of the signatures have been scripted in pencil and grade "8/9" on average (it should be noted that a few of the signatures contrast poorly against the dark background of photos). The signers are Walter Hagen, Denny Shute, Horton Smith, Ed Dudley, Gene Sarazen (black fountain pen), Byron Nelson, Henry Picard, Ralph Guldahl, John Revolta, Tony Manero, Sam Snead, Charles Whitcombe, Henry Cotton, Percy Aliss, Alfred Perry, Alfred Padgham, Arthur Lacey, David Rees, William Cox, Richard Burton, and Sam King. There is one additional signature (illegible) on the page picturing Hagen. The program (8.5 x 11 inches) is technically in low grade, with a badly torn and detached cover, and many edge tears to the pages. Fortunately, none of the flaws affects any of the signatures. This is an exceedingly rare signed example of this program, featuring the signatures of many legendary golfers, all of which were no doubt obtained right at the 1937 Ryder Cup event. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $948
