1966 Red Auerbach 1,000th Win Watch Presented by Boston Celtics Owner Marvin Kratter
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,555
18K gold wristwatch issued to legendary Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach by team owner Marvin Kratter in commemoration of Auerbach's 1,000th career win (regular season and playoffs combined). That momentous occasion took place on January 12, 1966, following a 114-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. The next day the Celtics honored Auerbach with a special half-time celebration in which he received this watch and a number of other gifts from the club. This watch originates directly from the Auerbach estate and is one of many significant Auerbach pieces that became available in 2011 when his entire collection was sold at public auction. It is accompanied by a one-page LOA, signed by Robert Rose (agent for the Auerbach estate), attesting to its impeccable provenance. The presentation watch has been consigned to this auction directly from the buyer at the 2011 Auerbach estate sale (where it realized a final selling price of $3,523). The Omega "Constellation" chronometer wristwatch bears the following engraving on the reverse "To Red Auerbach/On Your 1000th Win/Marvin Kratter." The watch, which remains in working order, displays normal wear commensurate with its age and former use. In Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,555
