1973 Topps Football Unopened Cello Box (24 Packs)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,110
Complete original unopened cello box of 1973 Topps Football. The box houses twenty-four packs with each pack containing twenty-four cards, for a total of 576 cards. This appears to be a particularly rare box as we cannot find records of one ever selling at public auction. PSA has only authenticated a total of six cello packs from this year as well. The 1973 Topps Football set includes the rookie cards of Hall of Famers Harris, Ham, Shell, Dierdorf, and Youngblood, and many other Hall of Famers, including Bradshaw, Tarkenton, Namath, Unitas, and Staubach. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the very real possibility that within this box are Gem Mint cards of these rookies. Notably, the rookie card of Franco Harris appears on top of one pack in this box (with O.J. Simpson on the reverse). All the other stars of the day are also included. The packs are in Nr/Mt-Mt condition. The display box shows advanced wear with three puncture holes (not affecting any packs) in the top panel, vintage tape holding the corners together, and a 3.75-inch piece of the back panel missing and replaced with a different color cardboard (and held in place with vintage tape). Normal shelf wear is visible on other parts of the box. This is a substantial complete unopened box of extremely scarce 1973 Topps Football cello packs, which are far rarer than most other packs from the mid-1970s. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
