1961 Green Bay Packers NFL Champions Team-Signed Football

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $948

Wilson official NFL "The Duke" football signed in both black and green ink by forty-two members of the 1961 NFL Champion Green Bay Packers, including Adderley, Agajanian, Austin (coach), Bengston (coach), Bettis, Carpenter, Cochrane (coach), Currie, Davidson, Davis, Dowler, Forester, Gregg, Gremminger, Hecker, Iman, Jordan, Knafelc (green ink, faint), Kostelnick, J. Kramer, R. Kramer, Masters, McGee, Moore (twice), Nitschke, Pitts, Quinlan, Ringo (green ink, faint), Roach, Starr, Symank, Taylor, Thurston (twice), Toburen (twice), Tunnell (green ink, faint), Whittenton, and Wood. The five remaining signatures are illegible. It should be noted that all of the seven green-ink signatures on the ball are very faint, with most faded beyond legibility. The black-ink signatures range from "2" to "10," averaging "7." The Green Bay Packers defeated the New York Giants 37-0 in the 1961 NFL Championship game to capture their first league title since 1944. The win also marked the first of five NFL championships during the decade, including wins in the first two Super Bowls. While any Green Bay Packers team-signed ball from the 1960s is desirable, those dating from the club's first Championship season, in 1961, are especially prized by collectors. The ball displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including a number of light abrasions, and is in Very Good conditon overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $948
