1962 and 1966 Topps Football Back-of-Card Cartoon Artworks (33)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $593
Collection of thirty-three Topps cartoon artworks used in the production of the 1962 and 1966 Topps football series. These are the actual cartoon artworks which appear on the backs of the standard 1962 and 1966 Topps cards, adding a little humor and extra content to the reverses of the cards, as was standard practice for many Topps sets in the 1950s and 1960s. This collection consists of sixteen 1962 Topps artworks and seventeen 1966 Topps artworks. The thirty-three original black-and-white ink artworks are all executed on thin board stock varying in sizes, but many of the 1962 artworks measure 4-7/8 by 2-/12 inches while the 1966 artworks are slightly larger at 5.75 by 4 inches. Three 1962 artworks are presented on a design board measuring 8.5 by 12.5 inches. The corresponding card number has been added by Topps to each artwork, either in the margin or in a blank area of the artwork that could easily be cropped out during production. This was done to make sure that the correct artwork was assigned to the correct player for card design. The most significant artworks in this collection are for the 1962 Topps cards of Hall of Famers Yale Lary and Dick Lane. All the artworks are in overall Excellent condition, and almost all display normal, production-related residue on the reverse or in the margins. These are fascinating original artworks that are ideal for display with their respective issued cards. Total: 33 artworks. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $593
