1965 Topps Football Complete Set Including Namath Rookie (176)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963

Complete set of 1965 Topps Football, one of the most popular and classic of all football-card sets, highlighted by Joe Namath's rookie card. The 1965 Topps Football set is packed with Hall of Famers, rookies, and extremely tough-to-find short prints. 10% grade Nr/Mt (including a few better), 36% grade Ex-Mt, 47% grade Ex, and 7% grade Vg-Ex. Many cards appear far nicer than their technically accurate grades (often downgraded due to centering, which is always a problem with this issue), and the set presents with a remarkable degree of consistency in terms of condition. Five cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #35 Kemp SP (Ex-Mt), 46 Brown RC (Ex-Mt), 69 Blanda SP (Ex-Mt), 87 Checklist SP (Nr/Mt), 99 Dawson SP (Ex), 122 Namath RC (NM-MT 8 [OC]), 133 Biletnikoff RC (EX-MT 6), 137 Davidson RC SP (Ex-Mt), 155 Alworth (Ex-Mt+), and 176 Checklist SP (Vg-Ex). Three short prints are also graded NM-MT 8: #15, 32, and 48. The oversized design of the 1965 Topps Football set makes this issue particularly susceptible to damage, and makes the assembly of high-quality sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive mid- to high-grade set, far above average for this issue, with many key-card condition highlights, and tremendous eye-appeal across the board. A high-quality complete set of one of card collecting's most popular football issues. Total: 176 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,963
