1920s-1940s Football-Helmet Collection (3)

The evolution of the football helmet from the 1920s through the 1940s is showcased in this collection of three extremely rare and early examples. 1) 1920s Stall & Dean black leather six-spoke helmet. The helmet features the company name, "Stall & Dean," and the model number "5445B" stamped both on the front of the helmet and on the interior leather top piece. Composed of a black-leather exterior and cloth-lined interior. Complete with its original canvas chin strap. The helmet displays moderate to heavy wear, with minor crazing and a few small nicks and tears to the leather exterior. In Excellent condition overall. 2) 1930s Spalding two-tone eight-spoke helmet. This is the classic 1930s-style made popular by Red Grange. "Spalding" is stamped on the front, while both the model number ("25FH") and size ("7 1/4") are stamped on the reverse. The "Spalding" logo appears on the interior top piece as well. The interior padding is composed of "Cushion Airlite Rubber." Complete with its original canvas chin strap. The helmet displays moderate wear throughout, including minor crazing and few small abrasions to the exterior. In Excellent condition overall. 3) 1940s Horace Partridge two-tone wing-front helmet. This classic style, which features a yellow wing-front against a burgundy body, was made popular by the legendary Michigan Wolverines. This is a rare Horace Partridge offering and the only example we have seen. The exterior is comprised of a hard top, with leather front, back, and side pieces. Leather padding is featured on the interior. Both the company name ("Horace Partridge Co., Boston") and model number ("F139C") are stamped in silver on the reverse. The size ("7") is also stamped on the reverse. The helmet displays heavy wear throughout, including crazing and abrasions on the exterior, and moderate tears to the interior padding. Complete with its original chin strap. In Very Good condition. Total: 3 helmets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,067
