1944 Brooklyn Tigers Team-Signed Football with Bruiser Kinard - Final Season in the NFL!

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $296

Brooklyn's entry in the National Football League lasted just fifteen years (1930-1944), and with a record nearly as futile as their baseball counterparts during that span, they are probably remembered by few fans today. Offered here is an extremely rare and substantial piece commemorating that long-forgotten franchise: a Brooklyn Tigers team-signed football dating from the club's final season, in 1944. This is one of the earliest NFL team-signed balls that we can recall seeing and the fact that it dates from the club's final season in the league makes it especially significant. The Spalding leather football, model number "6191BD," features the black ink signatures of thirty team members, including Hall of Fame tackle Bruiser Kinard. The remaining signatures featured here are those of Bob Masterson, Bill Brown, George Sergienko, George Smith, Frank Strom, Tony Aiello, Chuck Taylor, Andy Kowalski, Gordon Wilson, Vaughn Stewart, Rocky Uguccioni, Johnny Butler, Tony Falkenstein, Tony Leon, Ray Hare, Frank Martin, Steve Marko, Frank Bridges (coach), George Doherty, Joe Carter, Pug Manders, Kenny Fryer, Ed Kubale (coach), Floyd Rhea, Charlie Ware, Cecil Johnson, John Ellis, and two others (illegible). Signatures range from "2" to "7," averaging "5." Unfortunately, although all are legible, many contrast poorly against the dark brown background. The ball is partially deflated and has lost the plug to its air hole. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $296
