1880 Yale Athletic Association "Fall Meeting" Program - Walter Camp in a Football-Kicking Contest

Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $237

Two-sided program (single sheet; meant to be folded over) issued for the October 20, 1880, Yale Athletic Association "Fall Meeting." The interior pages list all of the planned events, as well as the names of the participants. Interestingly, Yale's star halfback Walter Camp is listed both as one of the judges and a participant in the event titled "Kicking the Football." Camp, who is often referred to as the "Father of American Football," later enjoyed a long and successful coaching career, and was responsible for many of the early innovations in the game. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951. The interior pages display vintage ink notations listing the winner of each event (Camp did not win the kicking contest). The program (7 x 5.5 inches) displays a slight area of adhesive residue along the front right edge as a result of its having once been mounted in an album; it is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $237
