1873 Yale (vs. Columbia) Football Program - Third-Oldest Known Football Program
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,851
Fold-over program issued for a collegiate football game between Columbia and Yale on November 22, 1873 at Hamilton Park. This is the third-oldest football program we have ever seen. To the best of our knowledge it is predated only by two other known examples: one issued for a game between Rutgers and Yale on October 25, 1873 (that example is offered in this auction), and another issued for a game matching Columbia and Yale on November 16, 1872 (sold for $3,900 at auction in 2009). The interior section lists the rosters for each club, while the reverse provides a score sheet to record the goals. The program (4.25 x 5.5 inches), which is not scored, displays light adhesive residue on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album; it is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,851
