1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Jesse Burkett SGC EX/NM 80
Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $5,629
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC (submitted by REA). One of only two examples graded at this level with just one higher. Presented is an extraordinary high-grade example of one of the key Hall of Famers from the prized T204 Ramly series: Jesse Burkett. Burkett is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Ramly Tobacco set. In addition to being one of the most important cards in the Ramly set, this is arguably the most majestic of the very few cards ever issued of Jesse Burkett. Burkett's career spanned sixteen years (1890-1905). During his career he batted over .400 three times, a feat duplicated only by Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby. After leaving the Major Leagues, Burkett owned and managed the Worcester club of the New England League (the team with which he is featured on this card) from 1906 to 1913, making regular appearances in the outfield until he was 45. The card has four sharp corners displaying only tiny touches of wear at the tips. Virtually flawless borders, outstanding centering (with a slight tilt to the image), and a crystal-clear image. Entirely clean, both front and back, with a boldly printed reverse. This is an extremely attractive high-grade example of one of the most important cards from this beautiful and extremely condition-sensitive set. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $5,629
