1911 T225 Khedival "Prize Fight Series 101" PSA-Graded Complete Set Minus 2 (23 of 25)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $474

Near-complete set of T225 Khedival "Prize Fight Series 101" featuring twenty-three of twenty-five cards, missing only Stanley Ketchel and Jack Sullivan for completion. Each card is graded and encapsulated by PSA. Classic full-color tobacco-card set featuring crisp images of famous boxers and facsimile signatures at the base of the image with biographical information and company advertising on the reverse. PSA Grading Composite: Four EX 5: Driscoll, Gardner, Lewis (highest graded), and O'Leary (highest graded). Six VG-EX 4: Barry, Coulon, Cross, Hart, Sharkey, and M. Sullivan. Three VG 3: Hyland, McFarland, and Rothwell. Five GOOD 2: Goodman, Jeanette, Jeffries, Murphy (MC), and Stewart. Two FR 1.5:Attell and Kaufman. Three PR 1: Frayne, Nelson, and Papke. Compared to vintage baseball cards from the same era, boxing cards are beginning to be widely recognized as offering an outstanding value. Even for the most advanced collectors, it is hard not to appreciate the exceptional quality, design, and rarity of this set. If these tobacco cards were baseball cards of the same rarity, each card might be valued in the thousands. The rarity of these cards is no doubt related to the fact that the Khedival Company was a very small and obscure tobacco company. This is an extremely attractive complete set of one of the premier boxing issues of the era. Total: 23 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $474
