1910 T220 Mecca Champions Boxing Complete Set (50): #2 PSA Set Registry! (5.50 GPA)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,896
Incredible high-grade fifty-card complete set of T220 Mecca Champions, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. This extraordinary set currently ranks as the second all-time finest on the PSA Set Registry with an impressive 5.50 weighted GPA. The T220 set exclusively features boxers and is one of several tobacco-card sets issued during the 1910 era which depict champion athletes and prizefighters. More than 80% of the offered set grades between EX and NM, which is extremely noteworthy for this set in which cards are normally found in much more modest grades. PSA Grading Composite: NM 7 (5 cards): Jas. J. Corbett, Driscoll/Glover, Mace, Mitchell, and O'Brien. EX-MT 6 (23 cards): Barry, Burns, Carney, Choynski, Coburn (Alone), Young Corbett, Cross, Donovan (World's Champion), Erne, Fitzsimmons, Goodman, Griffo, Heenan, Heenan/Sayers, Jeffries/Sharkey, Klaus, McAuliffe, McGovern, Randall/Turner, Sharkey, Sullivan/Kilrain, Wagner, and Welsh. EX 5 (14 cards): Burke, Dempsey, Edwards, Frayne, Gans, Goldman, Jackson, Jordan, Madden, Maher, Moore, Randall/Belasco, Ryan, and Sullivan. VG-EX 4 (8 cards): Beecher, Dixon, Donovan (Of Today), Hart, Lavigne, Mace/King, McCoy, and Wilson. Compared to baseball cards of the era, these early boxing cards, which are at least as scarce, represent a particularly outstanding value. This is an extremely attractive complete set of cards in remarkably high grade from one of the most classic boxing-card tobacco sets of the early twentieth century. The total SMR value for this set (excluding the eight cards graded less than EX) is $1,865. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,896
