1998 Sammy Sosa Pro-Model Bat

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $830

Sammy Sosa Rawlings block-letter (full name) model ("170B") bat dating from the historic 1998 season. Graded GU 8 by PSA/DNA. The bat displays evidence of use along its entire length, including ball marks and stitch impressions, cleat marks, an impression made by a weighted batting donut, tape on the knob and handle, and a handle crack (indeterminate length) that has been professionally repaired. Sosa's uniform number ("21") is written in silver paint pen on both the knob and end of the barrel. The model number ("170B") is also written in silver paint pen on the end of the barrel, just below Sosa's uniform number. Although a number of the knob stampings are covered by the applied tape, the year stamping ("98") remains clearly visible. Both Sosa and Mark McGwire made baseball history in 1998 by surpassing Roger Maris' record 61 home runs. Sosa ultimately finished second to McGwire in the home-run race, with his total of 66 falling four shy of McGwire's then-record 70 home runs. Sosa retired in 2007 with 609 lifetime home runs, which ranks eighth on the all-time list. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 31 ounces. LOA from John Taube and Vince Malta of PSA/DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $830
