1979 Pete Rose Signed Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,666
Pete Rose H&B signature model U1 bat dating from Rose's first season in Philadelphia. Graded A8.5 by MEARS. The bat displays heavy use, including ball marks, deep embedded stitch marks and light pine tar residue on the handle. Rose has inscribed the bat "Pete Rose #4256" in blue Sharpie ("10") on the "sweet spot" of the barrel. Factory records document only one shipment of this particular model (matching the offered bat's specifications) to Rose during his entire career, with that order having been shipped to Rose on July 2, 1979. Rose's first year in the City of Brotherly Love was certainly to his liking, as he batted .331 and amassed over 200 hits for the tenth and final time in his career. This is an outstanding Rose gamer dating from one of his finest and most productive seasons. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 32 ounces. Graded A8.5 by MEARS (base grade of 5, with 3 points added for use and a half-point added for the exact shipping information). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS, John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA (auction LOA from a previous sale), and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,666
