Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,896
Pete Rose H&B signature-model ("S222") bat dating from the 1973-1975 manufacturing period. The bat, which is not cracked, displays light-to-moderate use, including a few ball marks, rack marks, and light deadwood on the reverse of the barrel. Rose's uniform number ("14") is written on the end of the knob in black marker. Also written on the knob in pencil is the bat's original weight ("34"). Rose has signed the bat in blue Sharpie (grading "10") on the sweet spot of the barrel. This bat dates roughly to the midpoint of Rose's career, when he was one of the main cogs in Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine." Rose registered a career-high and league-leading 230 hits in 1973, the same year in which he led the League in hitting with a .338 average. From 1973 through 1975 Rose recorded 625 hits, which was the second-highest total for any three-year span in his career. He retired in 1986 as baseball's all-time hit king with 4,256. Length: 35 inches. Weight: 34 ounces. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,896
