1964 Brooks Robinson Pro-Model Bat - MVP Season!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,666
Brooks Robinson H&B signature-model "W166" bat dating from the 1961-1964 manufacturing period. Although the center brand dates the bat to the general 1961-1964 time period, H&B shipping records allow it to be dated precisely because this particular model, with a length of 34 inches and a weight of 31.8 ounces, was only ordered by Robinson in 1964. The bat, which is not cracked, displays moderate-to-heavy use, including numerous ball marks on the back of the barrel and rack marks. This is an outstanding early Robinson bat and one that, ideally, dates to the finest season of his career. Robinson recorded career highs for batting average (.317), home runs (28), and RBI (118) in 1964. Those numbers later earned him MVP honors at season's end. Although best known for his defensive prowess at third base, Robinson was a respectable hitter, and finished his career with a .267 average, 268 home runs, and 1,357 RBI. Those totals, along with his sixteen consecutive Gold Glove Awards and fifteen consecutive All-Star Game appearances resulted in his election to the Hall of Fame in 1983, his first year of eligibility. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,666
