Mike Piazza Game-Used New York Mets Catching Gear (Mask, Helmet, Shin Guards, Wristband, and Batting Glove)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,422

Offered here is a near-complete collection of New York Mets catching gear used by future Hall of Famer Mike Piazza that is comprised of his catching helmet, mask, shin guards, batting glove, and wristband. Ideally, this collection has the special provenance of having been consigned directly by Andrew Fogel, the leading expert in the field of New York Mets memorabilia, and whose New York Mets collection is universally regarded as the most esteemed and comprehensive in the collecting world. Fogel has included a one-page typed-signed letter of authenticity for all of the material offered here, some of which also have additional LOAs from other organizations. In addition to his letter (which can be viewed on our website), Fogel has also provide a number of quality images that picture Piazza wearing the exact-style equipment offered here. 1) New York Mets catching helmet. The black helmet, with blue visor, displays the New York Mets logo on the front. Piazza's name has been applied in white letters on the top of the brim and on the reverse. An "American Baseball Cap 7 3/8" label is affixed to the interior, as is a MLB "Authentic Diamond Collection" label. The helmet displays moderate wear throughout, including a number of scratches and abrasions on the exterior. Together with a COA and corresponding hologram from Steiner Sports. 2) Rawlings black catcher's mask, model "PWMX," with attached top visor (most images of Piazza behind the plate show that he favored a visor along the top portion of the mask). The mask displays light-to-moderate use and is accompanied by a COA and corresponding hologram label (on the rear head strap) by Elite Sports. 3) Pair of Rawlings shin guards, model "OMW." The shin guards feature a white and blue trim and each as an attached AliMed knee saver (photos of Piazza behind the plate clearly show that he used the knee savers while catching). Piazza's uniform number ("31") is written in silver paint pen on the reverse top pad of each shin guard. Moderate-to-heavy use is displayed throughout, including numerous scratches to the exterior and soil stains. 4) Left-handed batting glove. The black batting glove, with orange, blue, and white trim features Piazza's uniform number ("31") stitched in white along the wristband. (Piazza always wore a batting glove on his catching hand, as shown by numerous photos). The glove displays significant use, including heavy soiling to the palm and finger areas. 5) New York Mets orange wristband. The band, manufactured by Rawlings, features Piazza's uniform number ("31") stitched in large, blue numbers (accompanying photo pictures Piazza wearing an identical wristband while catching). Moderate use throughout. Total: 5 items (helmet, mask, shin guards, batting glove, and wristband). LOA from Andrew Fogel. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,422
