2009 David Wright NY Mets Game-Used Alternate Jersey Team Provenance - Jackie Robinson Night

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $830

Addendum: Please note that the catalog title for this lot is in error. The jersey is NOT signed by David Wright.

Unique New York Mets alternate jersey, with direct team and MLB provenance, worn by third baseman David Wright on Jackie Robinson Night at Citi Field in New York, held on April 15, 2009. What makes this particular jersey all the more special is that it is numbered "42" instead of Wright's normal number "5." One of the traditions on Jackie Robinson night is that all major league players, as well as umpires, wear number "42" to honor Robinson and his accomplishment of becoming the first player to break baseball's long-standing color barrier in 1947. Our consignor purchased this jersey directly from the New York Mets in 2009 and it is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the New York Mets, as well as an MLB hologram label certifying its game-used provenance. The white knit jersey is lettered "Mets" across the front and features the number "42" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliqu├ęd in tricolor (blue, orange, and black) tackle twill. A New York Mets patch appears on the left sleeve, while the right sleeve features a special "2009 Inaugural Season" patch (2009 marked the first season at Citi Field). The number "5" is stitched in black upon a white strip tag located in the collar. A "Majestic 48" tag is located on the interior left-front tail, as is a wash tag and two adjacent flag tags reading, respectively, "Taper" and "+1 Body." The jersey, which is original and unaltered, displays light wear commensurate with its single-game use, including a number of heavy soil stains in the area of the left chest and front-left sleeve. Wright singled in four at bats in the Mets 7-2 victory over the Padres that night, with the game marking just the second ever played by the Mets at Citi Field. This is an outstanding David Wright game-used jersey, both with respect to its ironclad provenance and the fact that it is a unique one-game-only jersey issued to commemorate the life and career of Jackie Robinson. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $830
