1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Frank Chance

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,896

Graded VG/EX+ 55 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the only example graded at this level with just four higher. Presented is Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Frank Chance from the prized T204 Ramly series, one of the premier tobacco-card issues of the era. Chance appears in the same portrait as on his classic T206 cards. The Ramly series is universally recognized as one of the most desirable of all the tobacco-card issues, appreciated by collectors both for its rarity and distinctive style. Chance is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Ramly Tobacco set. The card is well centered (very slightly to right), with light, even wear on the corners and virtually flawless borders. A tiny, almost imperceptible bend in the upper left corner is responsible for the modest assigned grade. The portrait is crisp and clean. Clean both front and back, and with a boldly printed reverse. This is a very attractive example of one of the key Hall of Famers from this beautiful and extremely condition-sensitive set. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,896
