1915 St. Louis "Feds" Sporting Records Newspaper Advertising Display
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $296
Advertising display, issued by the Sporting Records newspaper, featuring sixteen members of the 1915 St. Louis Terriers, members of the Federal League. Dated "Monday, July 19, 1915." The club is captured in a classic team pose, with each player identified in print along the base, including manager Fielder Jones, Charley Deal, Jack Tobin, Ward Miller, Dave Davenport, and Doc Crandall. Interestingly, Eddie Plank, who won twenty-one games for the Terriers that year, is not included here. Any and all material relating to the short-lived Federal League is scarce and this is the first example of this particular Sporting Records promotional display we have ever seen. St. Louis, which finished in eighth place the year before, was one of the Federal League's top clubs in 1915 and they finished a slim .001 percentage point behind league champion Chicago. The display (19 x 12.25 inches) has a slight two-inch tear in the lower left corner, as well as a few tiny border tears, none of which detract in the least from its apparent Excellent overall appearance. This is a very substantial and rare advertising display piece. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 25 x 18 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $296
