1930s to 1950s Baseball Advertising-Display Collection (4)

Collection of four baseball advertising displays spanning three decades: 1) Circa 1936 Red Man Tobacco die-cut cardboard advertising display. The display pictures pitcher Lon Warneke alongside a newspaper blurb extolling his performance in the 1935 World Series against the Tigers. 18 x 16 inches. Ex, with minor edge wear. Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 22 x 20 inches. 2) Circa 1948 Johnson & Johnson "V-Front Supporters" advertising display. The display pictures a generic image of a Yankee pitcher alongside the text "The New York Yankees World Champions use and endorse Johnson & Johnson V-Front Supporters." 18.5 x 26.5 inches. Vg, with a number of moderate creases, edge tears, and a nail hole in the lower portion (near the base of the pitcher's right leg). Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 24.5 x 34.5 inches. 3) Circa 1955 Cain's Mayonnaise die-cut cardboard advertising display. The display features a large illustration of Boston Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall, who tells consumers "It's Cain's of course! - To Favor The Flavor Of Every Salad." 23 x 32 inches. Vg, with a few minor creases, abrasions, and edge wear. Mounted and framed to total dimensions of 28 x 37.5 inches. 4) 1949 Bantam Books advertising poster. Issued in promotion of the company's newest book, The Story of The Brooklyn Dodgers, the poster pictures a large illustration of the book cover featuring an image of Pee Wee Reese turning a double play. The text reads "They're Here - The Daffy, Delirious, Dazzling Bums!" Former Dodgers pitcher Rex Barney has inscribed the poster in black Sharpie (grading "9") on the front: "To Ernie/Very Best of Luck/Rex Barney/Thank You." 22 x 28 inches. Mounted on linen. Vg, with a number of minor edge tears, most of which have been ameliorated by the mounting process, plus a few areas of light adhesive residue along the border areas. Total: 4 advertising displays.
